The Best Books To Sell Online

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Books are man’s best friends, and according to me, they come before dogs. They are invaluable and priceless, and pearls of wisdom. For someone who does not like to read, they don’t know what they are missing. I encourage you to go ahead, try a book, a good book, and it will make a difference to the way you think and your way of life. A good book always has a positive effect on people. When you read a good book, the thoughts and ideas of the author are imprinted in your head and heart.

You need to be smart, when you want to make it a business of selling the best books online. Collecting books for your personal use and wanting to make it a business are two different things. Be serious and stay focused. Try as far as possible to buy or purchase books in bulk, so that you get them at a cheap and low cost. And the same books can be sold at a higher and profitable price.

Some book sellers like to stick to special categories, like children’s books, health, recipes (gourmet, Indian, barbecue, there are hundreds of them) as they feel that they have so much information on that particular topic, and that it is sufficient for them, to sell and also profit from it. Yet there are others who would disagree, and opt for an open category, as this would not only give them a variety of topics, but enable them to cater to different kinds of customers, and meet with each of their needs. This they find is more profitable, than sticking to just one category.

When you open your bookstore online, make sure your website is attractive and will draw people to it. Offer great discounts, so that it all looks very tempting and hard to resist. Be intelligent when selecting your categories, as topics like romance, and mystery don’t really sell much. Don’t buy too many useless books. Buy only a few, but profitable ones. Don’t consider the value of a book in terms of literature and quality of work. That is only okay when you want it for yourself. Instead, look at whether it is profitable for your business and whether this is what people want.

People who stick to only one type of category have great courage in doing so, as quite a risk is involved in it. If by some chance it does not run, then you will have a problem. Still it is a safer option to go into the books business, and that too online, as you have a better and wider market to cater to, and you have a chance to think global, and to think big. Chances are, you will always make a minimal profit, but never really bear heavy losses like people who deal in shares or something more difficult.

Books can be your friend, and when it comes to business, your source of joy and money. But how you go about it is very important, as all your profit depends on the strategy that you use and the time and effort that you invest.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant about books. When shopping for books, we recommend you shop only at the best bookstores for used books, autographed books, and vedic books.

Guide to Winning With Paid Surveys

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

This article will give you enough information to get started making money online with paid surveys. Survey taking and companies paying for opinions is much older than the internet, in fact it has been around for decades. However, with the birth of the internet paid surveys really came into their own and have exploded in popularity. These days it is so much easier than in the past to make money being a survey taker, all thanks to the internet.

When beginning with online paid surveys you may need to use a bit of caution. As with any area that has money connected there are scams around. These are typically pretty easy to avoid. You should also beware working with middle men who will ask you to pay them for access to “special” surveys or lists of survey companies. These are just a waste of your money.

These days many if not most companies conduct at least part of their market research online. Often they will hire out companies that specialize in market research to have surveys sent out on their behalf. While it’s true that some shady companies have given the online paid survey industry a black eye, I can assure you that it is alive and well, paying out millions of dollars each year to the panelists who participate in online surveys. There are plenty of paid surveys out there for anyone to make money if they want to.

A good place to start is by doing your own research to get a list of companies together that are reputable. Try to sign up with at least a half dozen to begin. Some companies only send out a couple surveys weekly so you’ll want to register with several companies to ensure you’ll have an ongoing stream of surveys to take. When you begin receiving surveys be sure to respond to them in a timely manner and do a good job. The survey companies will look at your history and in time will send you not only more surveys, but also the higher paying surveys. By building a good history with several good survey sites you should be able to build yourself a nice monthly income.

It’s best if you keep your expectations small in the beginning as it does take some time to work up to a reasonable income with paid surveys. Most sites require a minimum amount for payment and this may take several weeks to meet. Once you’ve hit the initial payment though things tend to go much smoother. Oh, and it can also take a week or better to get credited for surveys you take. So, it pays to be patient in the beginning.
Paid surveys can be a good way to boost your income. Pick your companies well and you can do well with the free online paid survey. While there are some scams out there you can find many legitimate paid online surveys as well. Keep at it and you’ll be making money sooner than you think.

The author is a online paid survey expert and has been taking paid surveys and instructing others how to get paid for surveys for over a year. To learn how you can find free online paid survey companies visit his paid survey site which has links to over 300 paid survey companies available for free.

How to Become a Successful Online Entrepreneur

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

There is no doubt that many people would like to know exactly how to become a successful online entrepreneur

For a start let us take a look at the dictionary definition of entrepreneur. I think we need to be clear about what exactly an entrepreneur is before going any further.

Cambridge dictionaries online define an entrepreneur as someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves risks

So there is no confusion here. It is very clear. If you start your own business you are an entrepreneur but it does seem to have to also include an element of risk.

You could argue that any new business involves risk and that is certainly true, but successful entrepreneurs are willing to take much greater risks than your average new business starter

How exactly do you become a successful entrepreneur?
Well that has to be the million dollar question. If there were a prescribed and reliable formula, we would all be multi millionaires. There would be no risk and so paradoxically, perhaps no more entrepreneurs!

There are certain characteristics that successful entrepreneurs seem to possess, such as total dedication.

So what drives an entrepreneur and what makes them different to most other people? What is their vision compared to mere mortals?

For certain there are a number of qualities they all share and without them, they would probably not be entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurial qualities
You could say that any person willing to work hard at their own business is an entrepreneur but it has to be more than that. Many people try unsuccessfully to make it on their own, and many, in fact most fail, often just giving up because their efforts do not produce the hoped for results quickly enough

The true entrepreneur is remorseless in the pursuit of their goal. It is as much about achievement as it is about money but the money, as you might guess, is the real proof of success.

Entrepreneurialism has making money at its heart but the means to achieving this is almost incidental.

You could sum up the major qualities of a successful entrepreneur as follows

A successful entrepreneur thinks outside the box and is never satisfied with mediocrity in any part of their life

A successful entrepreneur is not necessarily obsessive, but is extremely highly motivated and committed to achieving their goal

The journey will be determined by its likelihood of success, not because it is enjoyable or laudable (although it might be either or both). Ultimately the enjoyment is in the success

All successful entrepreneurs leverage the efforts of others. This is a good and beneficial thing as long as it does not involve exploitation

No obstacle (short of death maybe) is too difficult to overcome. Where there is a will, there is a way. It is all in the mindset!

There is no giving up even when the way is fraught with setbacks. Expect them

The successful entrepreneur will do whatever it takes to reach the goal even if it means starting again

The successful entrepreneur must be able to handle both risk and stress. If not, burn out is extremely likely

So where does that leave you?
It seems clear that the entrepreneur is a special breed

Is it your intention to become one or are you already an entrepreneur?
Do you think you have at least some of the above qualities? You will probably need them all unless you just happen to get lucky in some way
Are you or have you already been successful? This will help

The new Entrepreneur
I believe a new breed of entrepreneur is emerging. They have all the necessary qualities of determination but are of a different mindset and they want success quickly. Most of their business is conducted online often utilising powerful software and the opportunities provided by Web 2.0 (at least at the time of writing)

But it is not just about making money for many of them. Many are also dedicated to helping others and often set up and fund special projects to achieve this. This is not a show of wealth but a genuine act of benevolence

With this in mind, perhaps there is a further quality we should be adding to our list of what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur

Sharing success with others, and especially with those whose lives are deprived or impoverished in comparison to our own

The new successful entrepreneur is most likely an online operator because it is more than possible to have a great deal of success, even just working from home

The risks are much smaller working online and it is a relatively inexpensive start-up compared to most traditional businesses

The secret of how to become a successful online entrepreneur is quite simple. You need a proven system that can easily and quickly be tapped into where all the hard work has already been done for you. You just buy into the ride

There are many offers available but the best solution has to be a top tier, high ticket, business in a box, with a minimum commission of around $1000 (one thousand dollars).

I would not involve myself in any other kind of business. Why bother when it takes no more effort to make a thousand dollars than it does to make a hundred

Emissions Trading: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The green movement has created a plethora of buzzwords. One of the popular phrases is emissions trading. And for good reason. Businesses, traditional and emerging, will soon be affected by this indirect carbon tax depending on where they fall in the supply chain.

One possible regulatory system for limiting future carbon dioxide emissions is a cap-and-trade system. Under this system, permits to produce carbon dioxide emissions are issued by the government and then sold and traded in the marketplace. Total carbon dioxide emissions (represented by the number of permits) are capped, and the market is allowed to set the price of those emissions (as opposed to the carbon tax system where the price is set by law and the market determines the total carbon emissions). The underlying motivation of the system is to achieve desired emissions reductions in the most economically efficient manner possible.

There is a variety of emissions trading proposals that differs in the details and in how draconian the measures are. One of the biggest points of variation is how the allocation of permits is handled. The emissions trading scheme instituted in the European Union allocated permits in most countries by a process called grandfathering. In this scheme, permits were awarded (for free) to existing firms based on the portion of national emissions they had created in the past. Firms could then freely trade the permits they had privately been awarded (through brokers, mind you), or in spot markets, where goods are sold for cash and immediate delivery.

A criticism of this cap-and-trade system has been that it has created huge profits for some firms that have produced the most emissions in the past. These firms have received a large number of permits and have been able to reduce their emissions more cheaply than the cost of permits. This has allowed them to make a large profit off the excess permits they could sell. Other proposals have used an auction scheme of allocation where firms bid on permits to buy them from the government. Under this scheme, the auction price of permits is essentially a tax, with the proceeds going to the government. Some of you may already be raising an important point: How much additional costs (read: overhead) the politicians pile on this tax for their friends and lobbyists affects how well the process works, or does not work.

Of primary concern for business planning is how an emissions trading scheme will affect the price of energy and transportation fuel. Unlike a carbon tax, where determining the cost is relatively straightforward, it is a much more difficult and complicated task to determine the costs imposed by an emissions trading scheme.

The cost of permits, which determines the increase to the cost of energy and transportation, depends on several variables in emissions trading schemes: the number of permits issued, whether the scheme covers one nation or is international, whether the use of carbon sinks (natural systems to soak up and absorb carbon dioxide, such as planting trees) is allowed, or whether a company can pay for carbon offsets in a country not covered by the trading scheme to meet its limitation.

International schemes have the advantage that emission reductions can be made in those countries where they are cheapest, while firms in those countries can sell their permits to firms in other countries where the cost of reducing emissions is higher. Allowing for the purchasing of carbon offsets in countries not covered by the scheme can have the same effect, as will allowing for the use of carbon sinks.

Some proposed schemes, such as one recently proposed in the U.S. Senate, consider a safety valve mechanism. The idea behind this is to make the system a hybrid emissions trading/carbon tax system. Permits are issued to limit total emissions, and these are traded among firms as needed. However, if the price of permits rises above a certain threshold, firms can then buy excess permits from the government at the threshold price. This amounts to an emissions trading system with a price cap. The advantage of this scheme is that it gives policy makers flexibility. They can set the number of permits and the price cap in such a manner as to achieve whatever exact policy they want from a pure carbon tax to a pure emissions trading system, all with a single mechanism.

Depending on the specifics of the trading scheme, and the specific nature of a given firm, emissions trading represents either a potential profit or a potential cost. Under any emissions trading scheme, the costs of energy and transportation will rise, just as it will under a carbon tax scheme. Some firms will be able to cover these costs with profits made from selling excess permits, while others (particularly heavy industry) will be hit with even higher costs. The key is to know where you stand and try to keep your options open as much as possible since it is likely that in the next administration and congress, there will be either a carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme in place.

What all this carbon tax debate is pointing to is the urgency to begin planning NOW for emissions trading inevitability to help protect your business from rising energy and transportation costs.

The New Way to Work from Home

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

With the shape that the economy is currently in, it is not any wonder that more and more people are looking for ways to work from home. In most of those cases, these same people have looked at work from home opportunities in the past, and found those opportunities to be quite lacking.

The biggest drawback of work from home opportunities is that they promise to be very easy, but it seems that one must have a degree in sales and marketing before they can even begin to imagine being successful. Furthermore, many people start working from home in an effort to have more of two very important things in life more time, and more money.

Unfortunately, once they get into their new home business, they quickly learn that they need all of this sales and marketing knowledge, and then they also quickly learn that they will spend more time working at their home business than they did working at their traditional job and they may not have as much money as that traditional job provided.

Both of these factors almost always go back to sales and marketing endeavors that are required for any type of business, including home businesses, to succeed. The majority of your time, as a business owner, will be spent with sales and marketing. In fact, these tasks will take up greater than 90% of your time, and this does not even include the time that you will spend learning how to perfect your sales and marketing techniques.

What if the most difficult part of working from home, sales and marketing, were taken out of the equation? What if you could spend 90% of your time serving your customers or growing your business without the most difficult aspects of sales and marketing? What if you could work less, and make more money?

The fact is that you actually can take the most difficult aspects of marketing and sales out of the equation and you can work from home easily and successfully. You can spend more time actually working on your business, as a whole. You do not have to take the time to get that sales and marketing education to start. You can have more money, and more time. It is just a matter of outsourcing sales and marketing to those who already have that education, as well as a proven track record of success.

Outsourcing has become the new way to work from home, but many business opportunities that are out there have not really made good use of the concept. It is amazing that outsourcing has not become more well-known and more utilized, since it is something that has been going on since the beginning of time.

In the corporate business world, and in our day to day lives, we are constantly outsourcing. Corporations hire freelancers to do short term jobs. They contract with other companies for services and equipment. In your personal life, you pay a dry cleaner. When you need work done at your home, you call a contractor, a plumber, or an electrician. You get your hair done at a beauty salon. You car is serviced by a mechanic. The list goes on and on.

We outsource tasks on a daily basis to those who have more knowledge in a particular area, and to those who are well equipped to handle the job that we need to have done. We assign that task to someone else, the job gets done to our satisfaction, and we pay the bill for the services. It is a very simple concept, and it is one that you need to incorporate when you work from home, if you want to enjoy greater success in a shorter period of time.

With sales and marketing being the hardest part of running a business successfully, it is not any wonder that the majority of people who start their own business will fail within the first two years. In most cases, when you start a business, sales and marketing are not your forte. Your forte may be in coming up with new ideas. You may excel at crunching numbers. You may have a passion for something other than sales and marketing and this puts you way behind the competition.

Luckily, outsourcing is the new way to work from home, and if you have not already started utilizing this concept, it is time that you did. You owe it to yourself, your family, and your business.

Make Money Online! The 1st Step to Becoming an Online Millionaire

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Have you ever dreamt of becoming an online millionaire? Perhaps your goal is to work from home in some area of Internet marketing? Whatever your online business aspirations are or your angle on how to make money, there is one particular and often overlooked first step!

You may be thinking that first step is getting a great website? Or an amazing product, (maybe an idea to create one?) Or indeed you might be thinking it’s ‘all in the list’, as you will hear many an experienced Internet marketing guru say!

While each of the above is important and has their place in the grand scheme of things, there is one vital factor that needs to come first. You need to start ‘thinking’ like a millionaire.

Let me explain, successful people in general (people who are perceived by the majority to have achieved above and beyond the rest) including those who make millions online, ‘Think’ in a certain way that differs from the majority of people. The good news is though, that your thoughts and ‘patterns of thought’ are things that you can take charge of and ‘control’ then adjust in order to start thinking in the same way as those who are already successful at making money. To start you on your road to success I’ve outlined below 3 ways that you can immediately use to start thinking like the millionaire that you want to be!

How to view problems

If making money and building an online business was an easy thing to achieve then everyone would do it. Inevitably there will be problems along the way. How you view these problems can be a deciding factor in overcoming them! The high achievers view problems as, inevitable, all part of the process. They see them as hurdles to be jumped or obstacles to find a way around.

In fact the word problem often does not exist within their vocabulary; they use the word ‘challenge’ in its place. These people won’t say, “The problem is” (that sounds like an excuse?) They just say “My challenge is” xyz and then they focus positively on the possible solutions. So from now on, lose the word problem from your vocabulary and chose to use the word ‘challenge’ in its place along with looking for a new perspective that views your challenge positively.

Know when to quit

When should you quit? That is a very easy one to answer, especially when it comes to chasing financial goals! The answer is NEVER quit. No matter how many challenges seem to face you in your quest, there is one sure way to guarantee that you will NOT succeed and that is if you quit!

By all means change your tactics on a particular project, perhaps try a different program to follow, or indeed if needed re-think your whole strategy and change your angle of attack. However the age old saying is as true today as it has ever been, ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again!’ Keeping your dream alive, whether that is to work from home or to generate a million dollar online business, requires you to never give in to the challenges that face you, this surely is a prerequisite to success. So just keep striving to reach your goals.

Find the positive

Your third way to start thinking like a millionaire that will help you to make money, is to find the positive in ‘every’ situation. When choosing your perspectives on how you view any situation, choose a positive one that invokes a positive emotional response. Your alternative is in choosing a negative perspective, which can ultimately lead you into a downward spiral of negative emotions. Once negativity gets hold, solutions are harder to find. The choice is yours!

Choose to find a positive way of looking at each and every challenge and you will likely find a positively charged set of emotions to lead you in the direction of a successful outcome.

Now you know the first step in becoming a millionaire online (or anywhere for that matter) starts with you, inside ‘your own mind’ which is entirely under your control. Starting right now! try to incorporate these ways of ’success oriented thinking’ into your everyday life.
