Real Work at Home Jobs: 6 Ways To Stay Motivated

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Wanting to start a real work at home job or business is no longer a new concept. Hundreds of people log onto the internet each hour to search how they can work from home. However you are intrigued by the idea of making money without leaving your property, doesnt mean you will have the motivation to actually put in the work.

The frustration of looking for a legitimate real work at home job that pays well and meets your needs gives you some indication as to what you are up against. Earning money from home is not the easiest way to get a paycheck. However, it doesnt put people off from trying their hardest to do it. Those who do work from home and enjoy it have some way of keeping themselves motivated. Here are a few

1. They have a work from home business plan:

By making a business plan they are able to outline and budget their expenses (which is what makes most business go under), decipher who their target market is and create an objective that is a reason for working home in the first place, i.e. I want to be able to spend more time with my family. And they return to this objective whenever theyre lacking motivation.

2. They are organized:

Having a business plan is one way to keep yourself on track but so is having a neatly set up office. Since clutter can drain anyones motivation and energy, they eliminate it by keeping their office organized and tidy.

3. They dont fall for every offer:

Because there are so many legitimate real work at home jobs or businesses it can be difficult to say no, especially when youre eager to make money. But motivated people carefully consider whether or not the work from home opportunity is a good fit for them. By turning down offers that dont suit them they can focus on those that do. Its hard to stay motivated when you have too many things going on. Saying no helps you to refocus your priorities and get back on track.

4. Find a mentor:

Being your own cheerleader 24/7 can cause anyone to lose motivation. But by finding a mentor and working with them, youll not only get support, youll find better ways to manage your real work at home job or business. This is a surefire way to get your pep back.

5. Get your family on board:

Having a mentor is great but if youre family doesnt support you you are liable to sink back into bummed out state. Before you even start a work from home business make sure you let your family know and get them on board. This will change their lives too and the more everyone supports each other the more willing everyone is to motivate each other.

6. Set realistic work from goals:

Trying to become a millionaire within three months of starting your real work at home job or business will not only frustrate you it will make you tired very quickly. All your work from home goals should be realistic. The more attainable something is the easier it is to stay motivated.

Working from home may not be the easiest thing but it does have many rewards. To keep yourself motivated, so you can reap these rewards, consider the tips above.

Joint Venture Marketing: A Legitimate Shortcut

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The term “shortcut”, particularly in business, is often considered to be almost as offensive as four-letter word. But when it comes to building a successful marketing platform for your Internet business, setting up shortcuts to make your work easier and more successful is indeed a good business strategy.

Joint venture marketing offers just such a legitimate shortcut that can decrease your workload and increase your profits. Forming this kind partnership is an excellent way to breathe new life into your marketing strategy if you are in a bit of a rut or just entering into the marketplace.

With this strategy your business forms relationships and partnerships with other companies who can assist with advertising and getting the word out to their clients about your business, products and services. You, in turn, do the same for their company. It is a mutual and reciprocal arrangement where both parties benefit equally from the partnership.

Exponential Results

Joint venture partnerships can incorporate more than two companies, and the more companies you incorporate into your platform, the more results these partnerships have the potential to yield.

Of course, you don’t want to involve so many companies that managing the partnerships becomes overwhelming, but keep in mind the more businesses you do incorporate into your strategy, the more contacts and clients you have the potential to reach. This gives you results that are exponentially proportionate to the results you could achieve either on your own, or with just one partnership.

Building Strong Relationships

Joint venture marketing is a subset of the relationship-marketing platform, in which customer relationships are put at the forefront of the company’s concerns and attention. Client relationships are still the central focus, but you simultaneously develop relationships with other businesses as a way to expand and further your client relationships. A successful partnership has the potential to significantly increase your client base. The stronger your relationships are, the more potential for an increased client base you will gain.

We all tend to go the extra mile for people we like or care about, it’s human nature. Relationships are the focal point for all marketing platforms, and the stronger your relationships are with your partners, the more likely your are to benefit. This is a somewhat calculated maneuver, but it is something that develops naturally. You are not pretending to like people you don’t – it’s a matter of giving your partners extra attention and taking the time to get to know them on a personal level, as well as on a business front. This will help enhance your professional relationships and bottom line. Forming a strong network of joint venture partners is a savvy way to increase your business, and a valid shortcut to gaining a wider client base.

Selling A Business? Learn How to “Fire Yourself” From Your Business

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

“You’re Fired” can give you peace of mind on the road to an exit strategy.

Business owners can learn how to “fire themselves”.

There was an article in the newspaper recently about a couple that was going to retire. The columnist was going through the fund of money that was necessary to replace earning income in order for the couple to live the lifestyle that they wanted. With today’s miniscule interest rates, the amount of money needed to totally replace their income was staggering!

But retirement today doesn’t have to mean totally going without income. If you do it right, your business can provide the income to do the things you love without the pressure of worrying. All good business owners know that one of the best parts of owning their own business is that someday they will be in a position to sell it. As strange as this may seem, in order to get top dollar for all your hard work, you need to “fire” yourself.

The smart business owner starts planning to sell his business long before he reaches retirement age. In fact, the really smart ones plan their exit strategies at the beginning of their business. After all, if you don’t know where you’re going, how do you expect to get there?

There are a number of different exit strategies that can be employed in business. Most of the time we have been taught to focus on selling the business and taking the cash to invest so we can live off the interest.

Your focus in your business should be to eventually make yourself dispensable so someone else can do the hard work while you reap the benefits. If you are not dispensable, are you the owner, or just another employee?

This strategy will also be a fabulous way to “be prepared” in case you are seriously injured and could not work. What would happen to your cash flow if that happened? If you already have the system in place for someone else to take over you won’t have this worry.

What if you want to sell your business eventually? Think about it. If you are indispensable to your business, what do you have to sell?

The dentist thinks of herself as the only one who can do her job. But in reality, how much of her work does she really have to perform? What part of her work actually requires her to have her dental license? How much other work is she doing that does not require that license? Could she hire a team to do all the work that does not require a license? For that matter, could she hire someone who has a dental license to do the work she does that requires a license?

The secret to firing yourself is adopting systems. Systems that allow your business to operate even when you are not there. Systems that can operate even when you are there. The person who has fired themselves has a business that generates cash flow, day in and day, even perhaps while the business owner is sleeping. Would you be doing what you do today if you had been taught in school to develop cash flow businesses instead of a salary?

An Explanation Of Cash Gifting

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Joining a cash gifting community can be very rewarding, but it can also be frustrating. Before you take the plunge, you will need to do some research as to which cash gifting community you should join, and you should understand your own reasons for becoming involved in cash gifting.

Here are some ideas to help you along the way.

Cash gifting can stir up massive debate on both the legalities of giving cash, and the morals and ethics surrounding such activities. This is brought about by the fact that no product changes hands, that cash is the only thing that changes hands.

I believe that giving cash to some else as a cash gift for which you expect nothing in return is perfectly legitimate. We often give cash to our children, our siblings, our parents, friends, other people we know. We do this because we sense that they are in need, or it’s their birthday, or it’s a wedding present, or a Christmas present. Or perhaps we give cash as a gift simply because we want to and it makes us feel good.

There are other ways in which we give cash without expecting anything in return. We give to charities, to our church, to fund – raising drives, school donations, etc. And of course, we have no uneasy feelings or thoughts about that either.

Let’s take it a step further. How many of us have bought Lotto tickets; had a wee punt on the horses; played the one armed bandits down at the club; had a bit of a flutter on the roulette wheel down at the casino? And what are our chances of getting anything back out of all of those? So that is another way in which we give cash without really holding out much hope of a return.

So what makes cash gifting different – and acceptable? Firstly, once again, we are giving money to somebody else of our own free will. Secondly, we may well be giving it to someone who really needs it. Along with giving our money gift to them, in the case of a cash gifting community, we are also showing them a way in which they can give a gift of cash to another person, and we’re showing them a way in which they can receive more money gifts as well.

We hear a lot of rubbish talked about pyramids and saturation. I find these arguments interesting, to say the least, when we consider that the winner in Lotto or other money raffles are paid out of the money paid in by the other ticket buyers. If we want to mention pyramids would not Lotto be a “pyramid”? And what’s more, a huge percentage of the ticket money is NOT paid out to the ticket buying participants. Instead it is giving to various charities and other worthy causes. This is our government’s way of justifying their cash gifting community!

In the case of today’s cash gifting communities all money passes directly from the gifter to the recipient, there is no government involvement and you are definitely free to give money to whomsoever you please.

In further advice to you, I recommend that you stay well away from any person who tries to convince you to become involved in cash gifting with an amount of money that you are not comfortable with. I take this a step further and suggest that you start out small. You can become involved in cash gifting for as little as $25. At the most, don’t become involved for any more than $150.

At these levels you are free to feel comfortable and good about your involvement, and you will find that your relaxed attitude will impress others when you tell them about the cash gifting community that you are a part of – so much so that they will feel comfortable in following your lead and in duplicating your actions.

Useful Insights into Magazine Publishing

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Young people today are becoming more enterprising. While they may get into mainstream businesses or even start their own magazine publishing business, others may want to make innovations all on their own. Despite how difficult it is getting to stand out and make a name for oneself today, our youth are doing all they can to carve out a niche for themselves.

Magazines are very visible to young adults, college students and younger teens. Everywhere they look they are surrounded by magazines that promise to address their needs and concerns. These people may save up to afford their favorite publications. It isn’t enough to read a copy that belongs to someone else, they feel the need to have their own.

If they like a publication enough, they will begin to collect it. That means they feel they cannot miss a single issue. The answer to this is to subscribe. If they don’t have the funds to do so, they will do everything they need to in order to afford it. This is a sign that they will find a way to get what they want.

This leads to those members of this population who decide they can do a better job of reaching out their peers than a slick magazine publisher can. After all, who knows more about what is going on with that age group than someone who is part of it, right? This person decides to open up her own magazine.

A polished magazine publisher can have the best editorial staff in town, but they are still assuming what this age group wants. When a group of teens work together and offer their own experiences, the rest will find it appeals to them because they can relate to it. They are experiencing the same kinds of things in their own lives. This is a key to the success many of these young people are experiencing in magazine publishing.

There is also the issue about the messages magazines send to our young people. They glorify unhealthily thin models and imply that one must adhere to very strict standards to be thought beautiful. They promote a single image as the perfect ideal, and readers begin to believe if they are not exactly like this image, they are somehow less. Luckily, more and more people are rejecting these notions. They are smart enough to ask why people can’t be appreciated for their individuality. It inspires them to give their own opinions to the world.

While magazine publishing is not an easy industry to break into, with the right angle and inspiration, someone can be very successful. With the right goal and the right connections, anyone can break into this business. Research pays off in helping these fledgling publications get started right. By starting out right, it helps the rest to fall into place.

Have a Great Idea for a Business? Test the Waters Before Diving In

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Now and then I meet someone (usually a young person) who tells me they really like helping with people, so they’re thinking about going into Human Resources or HR as it’s commonly referred to. They imagine themselves sitting in their large private office eagerly awaiting a long line of interesting employees with interesting problems in need of interesting solutions.

Ask most people who are already in HR though and they’re likely to paint a very different picture. Instead of spending time helping people, most people in HR spend the better part of their jobs days dealing with the “administrivia” of the business
world — hiring, terminations, benefits, pensions, payroll, and all too often, petty grievances.

A lot of jobs seem different from the outside. Think about your current career or job. Now that you’re there, is it what you thought it was going to be? Probably not.

Fantasy vs. Reality

Entrepreneurs are not immune to this “leap before you look” syndrome. Take the classic bed and breakfast fantasy. Clients often tell me they love the idea of selecting the colors and the furnishings, picking fresh flowers from the garden for the breakfast table, greeting the guests, and generally making everyone feel at home. Once the guests check out, they picture themselves settling into a big comfy chair with a good book or perhaps puttering in a Zen-like perennial garden. Utter bliss.

Once the real estate is purchased, most people don’t have the capital to hire others to do the cooking, cleaning, and bookkeeping. As a consequence, once the decorating is done and the garden is planted, they realize they’ve become a combination short order cook/chamber maid/bookkeeper!

Every business has its more mundane parts — especially in the beginning when you’re bootstrapping your business or are a “solo-preneur.” But still, the goal is to love more of the work than not. So, before you leap, you need to check out just how wide the expanse is between fantasy and reality.

How do you test out a business idea? Well, if you truly do want to run a bed and breakfast (and for people who are natural hosts, there are lots of wonderful aspects of running a B & B) the best way to get your feet wet without taking a financial soaking is to become a B & B sitter. Just like it sounds, sitters take over the day-to-day operations of established inns so the owners can go on vacation or otherwise get away. Companies like Deserve a Break actually match B & B owners in Australia and New Zealand with experienced relief workers. Similarly, in the UK, farmers can turn to a decades old company called Loring, King and Loring for relief and contract milking and agricultural staff.

Another option is to go to “school.” Sticking with our B & B example, you don’t need to earn a four year degree in hotel and restaurant management to learn how to run an inn. Many B & B’s offer weekend workshops for aspiring inn-keepers and some owners do individual consulting. If there are no classes in your area, contact a local B & B and ask if they’d let you intern with them in exchange for some free staffing time once you’re trained.

Getting Prospective Customers to Put Their Money Where Their Intentions Are

Even large, well established companies look before they leap. Hotel giant Hyatt ran an ad in the New York Times Magazine for its new Life Care community in Briarcliff Manor, New York. What caught my eye was not the fact that a hotel chain is branching out into senior housing, but rather the clever way Hyatt went about testing the waters before making a significant financial investment. Here is the fine print:

Through this marketing material, Classic Residence by Hyatt is exploring the market demand for a Life Care community in Briarcliff Manor. By joining the Priority Reservation Program, you are expressing your interest in future residency at Classic Residence by Hyatt at Briarcliff Manor. A Priority Reservation agreement is not a Continuing Care Residency Agreement. All deposits will be held in escrow at Bank of New York. You may obtain a full refund of the reservation system deposit, with interest earned at the prevailing rates at any time for any reason. If a refund is requested, however, you forfeit your priority number and benefits. Your status in the program is subject to the terms of the Priority Reservation Program, which are explained in the Priority Reservation Agreement. Classic Residence by Hyatt is currently under development, with a proposed opening date of 2009. Hyatt is a registered trademark of Hyatt Corporation.

How smart is that? In this case, it paid off. Hyatt withdrew plans to open the community due to escalating construction costs.

Think you’d like to borrow from the Hyatt model to explore market demand for your own high priced product or service? Before you start cashing any checks, keep in mind that the people sending you money are not investors. And as such you can’t use prospective customer’s money until you actually decide to move forward with your enterprise and your customers have signed a clearly spelled out agreement on the front end. This is definitely one place where you’ll want to employ the services of an attorney. But still, if your business idea lends itself to a similar approach, it’s a fascinating example of testing the waters by getting prospective customers to put their money where their intentions are.

There are lots of ways you can look before you leap into a new business. For example, you can:

~ Talk to people who are doing the kind of work you think you’d enjoy. Find out what they love — and don’t love — about their work, what a typical day is like, and what they would have done differently if they had to do it all over again.

~ Read “how to” books. It may not give you the total picture, but at least you’ll know more than you did.

~ Search for “how to” Web sites. As with reading books, it is not the same as test driving a business idea, more like sticking a toe into the information pool.

~ Work for someone else in a similar business. Depending on the business, you may be asked to sign a non-compete clause. Then again, if your goal is to start a specialized summer camp, the smartest way to see if you’d like running a camp is to first work at one.

~ Take classes. Check with your local adult education program, do a search for schools specializing in your area of interest, or seek out online courses. You never know what’s out there until you look. For example, The Institute of Culinary Education in New York City offers courses in how to write a proposal for a cookbook, breaking into food writing, and how to be a food stylist/ photographer.

~ Join an industry association. In addition to getting their publications, most associations offer conferences, seminars, and other opportunities to learn from and connect with people in your prospective line of work.

~ Hang out with people who are already doing what you think you’d like to do. If you’ve got an inventive mind but have never acted on it join a group like the Inventors Network in Minneapolis, Washington, DC, or Springfield, MA.

~ Find a mentor. Some people will mentor you for free. However, depending on how much time and training you need, you should expect to pay your mentor. If that person is successful in the business you’re considering, it will be well worth the investment.

~ Volunteer, intern or apprentice. I had the opportunity to chat with Steve Curwood, host of Living on Earth, an engaging environmental news and information program heard on over 300 National Public Radio stations. Naturally the first thing I did was pump him for information on how someone would go about getting their own program on public radio. Before trying to pitch an idea, Steve urged anyone interested in being on the air to first volunteer at their local station so they can learn first-hand how public radio works.

~ Take on a few clients or assignments for free. In addition to gaining experience, building confidence, and developing a portfolio or track record it’s a great way to see how you like the work before making a larger investment of time and money.

~ Start small. Everyone wants to go from nothing to having their own full blown business in a day. Not only is it not possible but you’d miss invaluable lessons. But perhaps most importantly, starting small once again allows you an opportunity to dabble in a new enterprise before deciding if it’s right for you. Small steps add up. The key is to just begin.

Do you have a great idea for a business? There are lots of ways to test the waters before you dive in head first. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Don’t be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

Valerie Young abandoned her corporate cubicle to become the Dreamer in Residence at Changing Course, a career change website for people who want be their own boss and work at what they love. Why Start A Home Based Internet Business

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

After the crisis that has occurred in the financial markets over the past few weeks why would anyone want to start a home based internet business? We just saw well established, long running, profitable businesses go into bankruptcy or merge with others to keep afloat.

So what happens when corporations go bankrupt or merge? People, like you and me, lose their jobs. Most of the people will see this job loss as a crisis, however there will be a small number of people seeing it as an opportunity.

No, I am not crazy. I was taught at a young age that if you encounter a problem there is a solution for it, and if there is a crisis there is always an opportunity. It is just a matter of perspective.

Now that your entire life has been turned upside down you have the perfect opportunity to take a very real and serious look at just what it is you really want in your life. That means your personal life, work life, financial well being, and health and welfare of yourself and your family.

This opportunity means that you have the chance to restructure your whole life. Perhaps you see yourself spending more time with your family having fun. Or you may want to travel, get a new house, or just do whatever it you want to do when you want to do it. But, how can you do all those things without a job?

Why not look at working from home? Did you know that we are at the perfect time in economic growth to start a home based business? Did you know that home based businesses are one of the fastest growing portions of the economy? Did you know that the potential for using the internet for home based business is just in its infancy?

So know that you know the facts lets look at how you will benefit when you start up your own home based internet business.

Firstly, you will save time and money working at home. No more getting up real early, spending two or more hours a day commuting, wasting gas while driving, not to mention that you will be causing less damage to the environment. Just imagine arriving at your desk, just off of your kitchen, coffee in hand, relaxed and refreshed after a nice breakfast instead of arriving at an office, muttering and snarling like a mad man, a half an hour late, after being struck in traffic and mayhem.

Secondly, you get to set your own working schedule. Plus you decide which projects you want to work on, after all you are the boss.

Thirdly, you decide how much money you want to make and how you want to make it. These are only a few of the reasons a home based internet business benefits you.

One of the most important things you need to look at when working your internet business is affiliating with a reputable company. One that offers a multimedia training system, exclusive products, great backend support, excellent commission structure and affordable start up fees.

With the proper program in place all you should need to do is advertise, market and bring in buyers to purchase the products or services you provide. You will have to devote some time and effort to your business, but it is well worth it.

So why not start your internet business today? This is your opportunity to live the life you have always dreamed of.

Begin Your Internet Marketing Program Without A Website

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

These days, when you open a business, you need a website — even if all your customers live next door. So does this mean you have to hire a web designer and start cranking out a handful of pages?

Maybe. But these days you can put together an Internet presence in just a few hours…maybe just a few minutes. Why would you want a fast and cheap solution? Here are some common reasons:

– You’re testing a market. You want to be sure someone will bite on your hook.

– You’ve got a big presentation and your site isn’t ready…and you’re smart enough to know an “under construction” site will cost you some credibility.

– You need a place to begin signing up subscribers before you create your product or invite clients to use your services.

The secret: You can get profile pages on Facebook, LinkedIn, and/or the “ezinearticles” site. You can also check out squidoo and ning opportunities. Your page will include your photo or logo, info about your business and a directory of all your ezine articles. You need three ingredients to make this option work effectively as a client attraction base.

First: You won’t want to send visitors to a site named after your profile’s sponsor. Instead, you choose a domain name that represents you. Your domain registrar (where you buy your domain name) should allow you to forward your “good” domain name to your profile page. If your registrar does not offer a quick and easy way to forward your domain name, find another registrar.

If you choose your domain name wisely you can keep this page even if you decide to go ahead with a full-blown website later. Some marketers refer folks they meet at live networking events to their profile pages. It seems more personal.

Just one caution: You don’t pay for these sites, so you are Subject to their policies. These sites can decide you’re one of the bad guys. It hasn’t happened to me, but some very responsible, respectable members have been restricted or suspended based on a glitch in the system or a false report.

Second: You need a freebie for visitors so they will be motivated to sign up for an ezine or e-course. So you will need a system to create a database of prospects and send them information via autoresponders.

Third: You need strong copy to send a clear message to your visitors. Explain briefly what you offer and why you are the best resource to solve specific problems.

Profitable Online Advertising: Make More Money With Google Adsense

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Google Adsense is online advertising that you can place on your website to make money for you. It is free for you to use, easy to set up, and if you target your ads correctly, you can generate a nice income with very little work on your part.

How do you use Google Adsense?
By selecting keywords that are relevant to the content on your website you can choose to display ads on your site that visitors are likely to find interesting and click on. You select the format you wish the ads to display in on your web pages. You then cut and paste some HTML code into your website so that the ads can be generated in the places you wish them to appear. It can take a few minutes to get up and running with Adsense, but a wise site operator will take the time to use the following tips to greatly improve their Adsense earnings.

Here are five sure-fire ways to improve your online advertising earnings.

1. Keep the ad layouts on your pages consistent.
If you don’t have a templated database driven website and you are creating each individual page on your site, make sure that you don’t confuse your visitors by having ads of different sizes, in different places, on different pages. Think how confused you would be if each time you clicked on a new page the menu had moved. Keep your layout consistent and your visitors will be familiar with your Adsense link placement, whether they overtly realize it or not.

2. Create a custom color palette for your ads.
Web surfers are so used to advertising that the more blatant the ads are the more they are glossed over. By blending your online advertising into the layout of your site the less obvious it becomes. Make sure your Adsense ads have the same background color as the web pages they are on. Removing the border and making the link colors match those of your web copy will also help the ads to blend in even more.

3. Prominently place your ads.
Don’t stick your ads at the bottom of the page. Put them “above the fold” so that visitors don’t have to scroll down to see them. If you have some long articles on your website break them up with some subtle, blended 468×60 Adsense banners and you will be surprised at how many more clicks you get.

4. Use the top format for Adsense earnings.
An ad size that works very well for the majority of Adsense users is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This format has the tendency to result in a higher Click Through Rate (CTR.) The wider width of this ad, especially when it is added to the top left hand area of your web page, blends in so well that visitors often think that the links are part of your actual website and so they click on them more frequently.

5. Automate your Adsense code.
Automate the insertion of your Adsense code into your webpages using Server Side Includes (SSI.) Ask your web design professional if your server supports SSI, as using this tip will be a real time saver – it removes the need to cut and paste Adsense code each time a web page is created.

With no cost on your part to use Adsense, it really is a great way to use online advertising to generate income for you. Sign up for a free account at with this Google service and start profiting from the good quality content you have on your website.
