On Guard Yet Fashionable Pool Fences

Friday, November 21st, 2008

There are different types of pool fences available in the market today that may suit your style and budget. Removable Mesh Pool Fence, Vinyl Pool Fence, and Ornamental Pool Fence are some of pool fences types.

Swimming pool fences are intended to protect toddlers and little children. These mechanisms prevent children from the risks of drowning and let them have access to the pool without adult supervision. There are multiple styles and options of pool fences to select from. You can always find one to complement your unique taste and preferences. One factor that you have to consider in building a pool fence is to determine whether it complies with the swimming pool restrictions that your homeowners association or your city implements.

Pool Fence Types

A. Removable Mesh Pool Fence. This type is a self-closing gate. It is specifically intended and engineered to operate with a detachable fencing system. Some of the variations of removable mesh pool fences offered today operate in tension. This means that mesh fabric will be a bit tighter during cold days and lose some tension in hot weather. Be sure that the latch that you employ for your gate is able to provide you sophisticated and dependable performance.

B. Vinyl Pool Fence is another classic design of pool fence. It is available in 48?, 54?, and 60? heights. A vinyl fence is also offered in various colors and some models even have stainless pins inserted into decking as required. Normally, this type blends with your backyard setting.

C. Wood Pool Fence-Although an old fashioned pattern, it can supply adequate safety. It is non-climbable if the pickets are spaced 1 ? apart. For pool fencing, cedar wood is adopted because it is naturally resistant to rotting as well as decay and requires no chemical treatments. This is the only kind of wood that has a distinct aging quality of weathering over a period of time. This creates it to be more of desirable silver gray and a fine choice for your pool fence.

D. Industrial Aluminum Pool Fence delivers attractive, maintenance-free security on your pool area. This is one perfect choice for adding safety as well as architectural or landscape motif to your pool. Industrial pool fences have the combination of exceptional strength and superiority that will ensure you that once it?s installed, you will never to be so worried about it again.

E. Ornamental pool fence. In addition to security, this type can merge chic and flair to your pool area. They are assembled from tubular bars to improve its affordability. Many pool owners prefer to use ornamental fencing because it is a string secure fence with an open pattern. It actually grants an eye-catching backdrop to your existing landscape. Ornamental pool fences have standard color gamut and diverse forms that will complement all pools from contemporary to traditional designs.

F. Chain Link Pool Fence is amongst the most adaptable, widely used pool fence thanks to its economical aspect. It has become colorful and trendy over the past few years, as well. The traditional metallic covered chain link pool fence continues to be the most effective and reasonable pool fencing system that protects your kids from unsupervised access of the pool. If you want an extra privacy on your pool area, you can use slats. Slats are inserts designed for chain link fencing. They can be fitted vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Slats are available in assorted colors that will blend well with the surroundings. You can create different patterns of slats by way of alternating the colors of slats in a fence.

Prepare Your Furnace For Winter ? Why Be At The Mercy Of The Furnaceman

Friday, November 21st, 2008

An important lesson in life is not to be caught unprepared at the last moment. So is with home or office heating and air conditioning systems. Leaving routine heating maintenance to the wind and chance is downright foolish. It?s dangerous as well as costly.

Everyone knows that the cost of gasoline has hit the roof. So is with home heating fuels which although gas prices have gone up and down and guaranteed to be more costly and expensive than last year. Not having routine heating system maintenance done ahead of time, long before winter?s chill is like putting you in a position of a chicken with it head cut off. It looks heroic and great but ultimately is a poor use of time and energy. . Perhaps you had a boss who planned ahead or did not plan ahead. Remember all the wasted time and energy spent. So is it with your home or office heating systems.

It you wait for the last moments so to speak when the snowflakes are just beginning to fall it can be an expensive and time wasting bargain. Worse yet at the time when your furnace malfunctions you run the risk of frozen pipes, extensive damage to your property There may even be additional costs to this equation ? such as time taken off of work or even extensive expensive cell phone charges . Worse yet you may have to deal with an angry as well as frozen wife, family members, pets and perhaps even tenants.

To make the whole situation worse you will be at the mercy of the heating contractor or furnace man. Gouge city. You will not be in a very good negotiation position at all. It?s like a situation of a gun to your head. Pay the repair people their pound of flesh or risk extensive property damage and costs. Forget about shopping around for the best furnace deals. You will not have any time to make up your mind or comparison shop for the best product and price. What you will be offered you will gladly take. You may well not overpay, but get poor service in the bargain (or non bargain). It will be almost as if you have to get on your hands and knees in the cold to beg and plead with the serviceman to get the diagnosis and repairs done on your furnace and heating system.

It is best now to prepare your furnace for the upcoming cold weather. You can count on three things in life - taxes, winter and mean relatives. It is best to call your heating contractor to have a qualified technician check, clean and lubricate your heating system. For safety, reliability and efficiency it is important to have your furnace and heating system in peak operating condition before the heating season begins. A malfunctioning furnace that uses natural gas, propane, wood or oil can create the potential for dangerous and deadly carbon monoxide problems. A tune up can help prevent and catch this ? and make your furnace run more efficiently ? thus saving you money.

In addition there re other ways that can keep your essential and often not thought of furnace ready for use. Inspect furnace filters regularly: then clean and replace them as required. Of course it is always best to use the correct and appropriate filters for your furnace. Always keep the area around your furnace clear, uncluttered and unobstructed.

Your furnace needs to breathe just like you. Never ever store flammable materials and liquids like paint, solvents, cleaners or gasoline in the same room as your furnace.

It is best to have your furnace cleaned and inspected by a qualified professional once a year and not your handy cousin Raymond. Always make sure to keep the return air grilles and supply air registers of your home heating system properly vented m clean and unobstructed. Lastly always operate your furnace according to the manufactures.

Maintenance instructions.

Why wait for spring or in this case a cold winter? Prepare your furnace now for winter.

Rooms with an Asian Twist

Each time you encounter a living room with Asian home d?cor, you are always spellbound with its refreshing charm. The d?cor never fails to enchant the senses and adding these to your suburban home will bring years of pleasure as you can always redo your home and add some eclectic touches without dumping those Asian stuff in the attic.

Asian home d?cor can complement any theme inspired home decorating because the secret of Asian d?cor is their affinity with nature, thus their versatility. By correctly matching them with your present decorations, you can create a distinctive and impeccable Asian look that is both restful and aesthetic.

Visualize your present living room. It could be just any hole in the wall. If you have a black and white minimalist room, throw in a dash of color and marvel at the transformation. Natural cane furniture, red throw silk pillows, and some green plants can immediately give your room the Asian touch. A bamboo lamp here and a plum blossom teapot on a table are a few light touches before you do the big makeover.

Decorating with Asian Touches

There are a few things to know before launching a home decorating DIY campaign in your home with Asian home d?cor. A professional interior decorator would blush if you don’t start planning your living room make-over around the foundation color. Work around the foundation colors of gold, brown, red, tan, and gray because you are redecorating to complement and compliment your existing home fixtures with pieces of Asian d?cor.

A massive and costly redo of your living room or bedroom can be avoided by starting with small pieces but always with an eye for the overall look. Pieces picked at random and plunked in the living room should not be the way to set you off with Asian home d?cor. You can start with a small carved sacred animal piece, or a big item such as intricately woven deep-seating rattan chairs, and you can add more finds that match the existing d?cor.

But do not overdo your Asian touches. Too much Asian home d?cor can turn your room into a stuffy museum instead of a relaxing living room. A few key pieces are fine. You do well by investing with an expensive Asian wall hanging to go with your cane furniture. In the bedroom, a Shoji screen can do wonders and to top it off, aluminum and glass candle holders on a teak tray will complement the look.

Simplify, Simplify and Simplify

Asian decorating your home is about simplicity, one of the key elements in beautifying your home with Asian home d?cor. Decorating the Asian way is about bringing in peace, serenity and balance to the space and this calls for the uncluttered look. You will have to get rid of the heavy stuff in the bedroom and living room to give room space to breathe. You will only have to add a few pieces and let the quality of the pieces speak for itself.

Emphasize your Asian home decor with sofa throws. But don’t forget the carved wooden box for your valuables and his men’s sterling silver bracelet. The wooden chest can be good d?cor too. Find these all at UniqueCollectiblesGift.com.

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Transform your abode into an enchanting home with bright colors, intricate designs, and a touch of the exotic - and what better way to do this than to adapt asian home d?cor? You might not be such a big fan of the exotic, and that is exactly why you need to take a plunge. Sticking to safe colors and designs may be, well…just that. Safe.

Redecorating Tips

If you are looking forward to redecorate your home, safety is the last thing you should be thinking of. Be creative. Be bold. But don’t worry - being creative and bold does not mean leaving behind your common sense. Exotic and fun doesn’t necessarily mean a crazy mishmash of exotic looking furniture, and eye-catching colors and patterns.

You might not think it possible, but you can get an atmosphere of warmth, calm and order with asian home d?cor. Here are a few tips you can work with when incorporating a touch of asian home d?cor into your space.

Lighting

Lighting is dominated by the use of lanterns made of rice paper. You can use table lanterns as well as hanging lanterns. The soft light emitted by low wattage bulbs will add a warm glow into any room. So if you want a brighter effect, just add more lamps.

Room Dividers

You can select from a variety of room dividers that range from rice paper to wood. Depending on the theme and color scheme of your room, you can get a room divider to blend in or add an interesting contrast to the area. You can be simplistic with plain dividers, or extravagant with painted or embroidered dividers.

Fabric

Fabric is the most extravagant offerings of asian home decore. Elegant silks in stunning colors, intricate embroidery, appliqu?s, brocades, and saris are some of the exotic materials you can work with. Use them as window coverings, cushion coverings, bed spreads, pillow cases, table runners, and napkins.

Nature

Incorporate the elements of nature into your design. Water, plants and stone are a good way to go when you want to achieve that peaceful, comforting effect of asian home d?cor.

The sight and sound of water will breathe in tranquility into any room. You can use miniature water fountains for you coffee table or if your budget allows it, use an elegant glass wall fountain for a stunning effect.

Bonsai and bamboo are popular plant choices for any Asian inspired theme. Bamboo plants are easy to care for - place bamboo shoots in a clear glass vase, fill with water, add smooth stones and replace the water once a week. Using glass beads instead of stones but might colorful but stones add to the Asian feel.

For asian home d?cor, bonsai plants are nice additions, but these are high maintenance plants. Caring for it requires skill. If working with plants is a passion for you and bonsai plants will be a great choice if you want to incorporate plants into your d?cor; but if do not have the heart and the time to really care for one, then the bamboo plant is for you.

Lighting Floor Plans

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Lighting floor plans take many shapes and come in all sizes.

Some are more formal and organized, while others are more freeform and pose unique lighting challenges. Variations in ceiling height, daylight and construction materials form a three-dimensional framework around the floor plan. Custom home lighting fixtures must be chosen based on their ability to harmoniously compliment interior surfaces and architectural elements. Otherwise, fixtures will appear too obtrusive and diminish the room?s aesthetic. The best way to design a superior lighting floor plan is to install low-profile functional lights and decorative accent lights at unique angles of incidence. Creating a multi-layered interior lighting design in this fashion will ensure decorative appeal and satisfactory lighting levels at once.

One of the most common questions we get about lighting floor plans deals with the actual number of lighting fixtures that a particular room will need.

The answer to this question is highly subjective, and requires a case-by-case analysis of each interior element to determine. Room sizes dictate the number of lighting fixtures and the wattages that must be used to provide general lighting. Factors such as ceiling height, the presence of natural light coming in through windows, and floor space itself play major roles in determining wattage and lumens levels. Hallways, for example, with tall ceiling eliminate the opportunity to plan recessed lighting because the angles are too steep creating objectionable shadows on objects of art. To overcome the effects of tall ceilings, homeowners are sometimes inclined to use the brightest lights to make sure that everything can be clearly seen. This type of lighting floor plan can cause more problems than it solves, however. Too much light creates either indirect glare or glare reflecting off glass and metal surfaces. It also creates a ?flattened? look where everything looks two-dimensional. This works against interior decorating and is best avoided through a more strategic and selective blending of general and accent lighting. Floor plans can be illuminated in this fashion with multiple layers of house lighting that magnify important design elements reflective of personal taste and lifestyle.

Decorative lighting and use of chandeliers depends on the interior designer’s look and feel of the home.

Most floor plans are traditional or contemporary, and decorative lighting fixtures come in both types of styles to provide a visual compliment to their surroundings. Chandelier lifts, a real luxury are becoming more prevalent in today’s modern new home wiring plans due to taller ceiling heights and more elaborate fixture designs. They are useful during the installation of the fixture, for lamp changing and for cleaning purposes. If you are planning to have a chandelier as part of your lighting floor plan, it really should be done by a professional who can install it with a lift. This will allow you to do simple indoor lighting maintenance on your own and avoid the expense of service calls in the future.

Accent lighting is determined by the number of targets to illuminate such as art, sculpture or furnishings.

Recessed low voltage accent ccent lights add great value to any project, and magnify the elements of both contemporary and traditional-style interior d?cor superbly. Accent lights create focal points and are used to illuminate fine art, antique furniture, dining tables and plants. Accent lighting fixtures typically have small apertures which tend to hide the light source and minimize visual glare. They can also be used as an effective general lighting source in some contemporary lighting floor plans when planning your house lighting.

Although the lighting concepts are repetitive, every home takes on a new design depending on the floor plan.

It pays off in the long run to have your lighting floor plan developed by a professional lighting designer with extensive knowledge of interior decorating and architectural theory. Professionals like the consultants at Illuminations Lighting and Design know how to isolate key features that need enhancement through lighting, and they know where best to install lighting fixtures for functional and aesthetic effect.

Tips For Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

With more Chicago condo and home owners deciding to remodel and upgrade their current residences instead of buying a new house or condo, one of the projects that many decide to tackle is refinishing hardwood floors. Not only will refinishing your hardwood floors give your home a great new look, it will add value if you ever decide to sell. Hardwood floors that have a beautiful finish are one of the top selling points that many prospective buyers look for when shopping for a new condo.

Refinishing your hardwood floors isn’t as complicated as you might think, although it can be time consuming and a little labor intensive. There are a few tools and supplies you will need though. Nearly all can be rented if you don’t want to lay out the money to buy them or think you won’t have a need for them in the future.

The basic tools you will need are some kind of sander, which we’ll cover in the next section, safety glasses, dust mask or respirator, ear plugs, sand paper, masking tape, drop cloths or plastic sheeting, stain and plenty of rags or tack cloths.

Before you begin sanding, you need to determine the thickness of your wood flooring. It needs to be at least 3/4 inch thick before sanding, otherwise you risk sanding too deeply and damaging the floor. Older wood flooring is normally fairly thick, but some of the newer engineered wood floor material can be thinner, so check before you start to sand.

Start by emptying the room of all furniture and sweeping your floor to remove any debris that might cause scratches while sanding. Since there will be a good deal of dust generated from the sanding process it may be wise to also take down any window coverings, pictures on the walls, cover ceiling lights and also put a plastic sheet barrier over any doorways to other rooms to prevent dust drifting. You should also tape off heating and cooling vents and electrical outlets. The trim along the edge of the floor should also be carefully removed and sanded by hand. If you can open some windows and even place a fan to draw out the dust it would help a lot.

You can rent a drum sander at most hardware stores. This tool takes some getting used to if you’ve never used one before, so it’s wise to practice a little in a part of the room that won’t be seen as easily until you get the hang of it. Always tip the drum sander up before you turn it on. Never start it while it is still flat on the floor. Gradually lower it and then move it back and forth or from side to side, never let it sit still or it will sand out a deep pocket and you’ll ruin your floor. Keep moving until you’ve covered the entire surface.

If your floor has a lot of scratches or needs a lot of sanding, begin with about 20 grit sandpaper. The lower the grit number, the coarser the grit and the higher the number, the finer the grit. So you should progress from low to high, and usually finish with about 120 grit. It’s best to save the edges for last and do them by hand. Once you are finished sanding, vacuum thoroughly and it’s also a good idea to wipe the floor down with a tack cloth to be sure you get all the dust up

Now you are ready to actually stain your hardwood floor. Depending on what type of water-based or oil-based stain you decided upon, you may have to apply more than one coat and do a light sanding between coats. Be sure to read the instructions on the product before starting. And remember that the color on the can label or in the store won’t be the exact color of your floor, so try out a small patch in an area that isn’t easily visible to make sure you are satisfied with the color. Be sure to have plenty of ventilation while staining as the fumes can be strong.

Once you have all the coats applied and the floor is completely dry, you should probably rent a buffer to really give the stain job a great finish. Just like the drum sander, start slow until you get the hang of using the tool. The final step then is to reattach any molding or trim you removed (after staining it of course) and apply a polyurethane finish. You may have to give the floor more than one coat with drying time between. You can do this by hand with rags, but using a tool with a long handle similar to a sponge mop will save both your back and time. Read the label for recommended drying time, but it’s always a good idea to wait an extra day or two especially in high humidity before moving the furniture and any rugs back into the room.

Refinishing your hardwood floors will add beauty and value to your condo or house. Most Chicago real estate agents have noted that units with hardwood floors like the ones listed in these new construction condos http://www.bestchicagocondos.com/new-construction-condos/index.html sell better than homes without hardwood floors. This not only is a great selling point that many buyers look for, but something you can enjoy yourself for years to come.

Enchanting Christmas Picture Frame Ideas You Can Do at Home

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Every year it?s the same old decorations that come out of the box. We take them out the box of Christmas decorations, clean them up and place them out for display. At the end of season, back they go. Some may be looking a little tired. Decide on a change this year. Retire or restore some of these oldies (but goodies) and opt for some of these enchanting Christmas picture frame ideas. Okay, so some of us are emotionally attached to our decorations just the way they are and parting with them would bring undue stress. That?s fine. But, what?s terrific about these ideas is that some of them use your old decorations! Be proud of yourself because now you?re stepping into the ?vintage? arena of design. Now that?s a step, isn?t it?

Does your manger display need a paint job? Preserve the life of your favorite scene by placing these figurines in a partitioned shadow box picture frame. Perform some quick touch ups with paint from a local craft store and let dry. Glue or tape your figurines so they don?t move when you move the box.

Preserve your smaller Christmas wreath by setting it in a picture frame. Whether you?re using natural or artificial materials, the beauty of your wreath can be viewed for many years to come. You might consider using a clear lacquer spray to encourage the pine needles to stay put.

Create a poinsettia print display using a picture frame. The pressed and dried leaves and colorful bracts of the poinsettia are lovely when accented with gold and silver colors. Consider using ribbons, braided cords or even paper and then, for a sparkling effect, try applying a glitter glue spray to the dried leaves.

Changing out your regular ones for glass picture frames will help to create your winter wonderland effect. Etched glass and frosted glass picture frames work well with almost anything. They will soften any effects that darker and bolder colored picture frames may have. This will help to create a wispy, whimsical effect of a snowy Christmas and may also contribute some sparkle when they catch the light.

Are you a Christmas card saver? A montage of Christmas cards set in a picture frame will add a distinctive and intimate touch to your home d?cor. Cut and paste your favorite parts of the card onto the backboard of a picture frame. If you?re not ready to put a scissors to your card just yet, consider placing the cards within a photo album.

Make use of your mistletoe all year long. Preserve your mistletoe with glycerin and set it in a gold colored or other colorfully designed picture frame. Learn how to preserve foliage with glycerin before attempting this. Another important factor to note is to be ready for kisses all year long!

Take a family photo every Christmas and display proudly on your wall during the holiday season. Consider using the glass frames mentioned above, but for an added effect, consider using glass picture frames that are decorated with metal artwork. The metal artwork adds a more dramatic effect to your family photos that will surely draw attention at family gatherings.

What makes these ideas great is that your memorabilia are preserved. The picture frames can be easily stored and retrieved. They can also remain as a part of your home d?cor well past the holiday season. Have fun making your enchanting home d?cor!

Kathy Page and her daughter, Casey, operate http://www.greatpictureframes.com which provides an opportunity to find unusual picture frames and photo albums that express your creativity and style. They search out distinctive frames that you can’t find just anywhere, including some beautiful glass picture frames.

How to Make Money at Home While Maintaining Personal Home Life: The Best of Both Worlds For a WAHM

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

If you are reading this article, it means that you possess respectable knowledge on how to make money at home and probably moved past beyond being one of the estimated 6 million people who fall prey to online money-making scams. However, with success in the WAHM field comes the wham part - sacrificing personal home life in favor of professional career moves.

This need not be the case, however, especially when you can apply these tips to applying your knowledge of how to make money at home with balancing your need of how to make love at home!

Organize, Organize, Organize

The need for efficient and effective organization cannot be overemphasized if you are to apply your knowledge of how to make money at home successfully. The adages about a place for everything and everything in its place as well as about a time for everything and everything in its time are ones that you can and you should apply wisely.

You can organize on three levels. First, you have to organize your time. You have to set a daily and weekly schedule - when to work on the home business, when to rest, when to relax, when to perform household chores, when to conduct home management tasks, when to cuddle up with hubby and kids - and stick to your guns.

Of course, you can be flexible especially when you have kids. Still, your schedule must be adhered to as closely as possible barring emergencies if you desire order in the house and in the business. You will indeed find that how to make money at home involves how to make order out of chaos.

Second, you need to organize your work areas. This is very important as you cannot and should not waste time and effort looking for every scrap of paper, every piece of office equipment, every loose paperclip in your already-crowded daily schedule.

Also, you have to keep your work areas separate from the rest of the living areas lest you find your office files becoming drawing paper, your ink mixed in with the infant milk, your laptop the new toy for the little boy. If possible, convert a spare room into a home office and keep it securely locked to avoid disasters of the kid kind.

Third, you must organize your business records. Your business records are valuable in keeping your business in the black when it comes to tax filing time, keeping business contacts, maintaining tip-top accounting records and generally just keeping tabs on the quantitative side of the business.
