The Future of Junior Golf Clubs

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Manufacturers have traditionally ignored the changing demands of the junior golfer in terms of suitable golf equipment. Junior golf clubs for example have historically been manufactured from sub-standard materials and components in one size and one colour fits all.

Knowing and understanding how children grow and change rapidly, many of us will have learned using cut-down golf clubs from our parents. Despite the correct length the weight of the club is often too heavy and the shaft of the club too stiff making it difficult to swing the golf club correctly. It is these early swings of the golf club that can inspire the junior golfer into a lifetime?s enjoyment of the sport.

With new technology, materials and components now being used in the production of junior golf clubs from brands such as Young Gun, Texan Classics and Confidence ? junior?s can use a properly designed and fitted set golf clubs that will lead to confidence inspiring shots.

The importance of producing suitable golf equipment for junior golfers is vital for the future of the sport ? The Sports HQ recognises this association and offers a large number of junior lines including golf sets, clubs, clothing, bags and accessories ? manufactured and supplied direct for exceptional savings compared to high street shops like Argos, JJB and Sports Soccer.

Junior golf brands like Confidence and Texan Classics produce golf club sets for ages 4-7 and 8-12; a junior set for girl?s in neon pink from GolfGirl is also available ? all brands offer sets in right and left-handed editions.

With some manufacturers now realising the importance of producing golf equipment to meet the growing demands of the junior golfer, brands like Young Gun manufacturer junior golf clubs to the same specifications as adult clubs to allow the smooth transition from junior to adult golf equipment. Young Gun sets can be purchased for age groups: 3-5, 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14 including a square profiled 3-wood, 3 stainless steel irons (5-7-9) and a white ball putter ? all fitted with graphite shafts and supplied in a colour coded stand bag with a matching head-cover for the 3-wood.

Junior Golf Clubs can also be purchased individually from online sources including 460cc square drivers, woods and hybrids all fitted with junior flex graphite shafts designed for junior swing speeds. Square club-heads fitted to junior golf clubs is another sign that manufacturers are conditioning youngsters to the game improvement technology used in full-sized golf clubs.

Online suppliers can also offer exceptional discounts on junior golf accessories including clothing, wind-shirts and waterproofs from top adult brands like Ashworth and Stuburt in addition to low factory direct prices on all Young Gun equipment including golf gloves, trolleys and bags.

Unlike the high street online suppliers like The Sports HQ can supply junior golf clubs with discounts of up to 85% to be found on exclusive brands like Texan Classics and Confidence ? with prices starting as low as ?29.99.

The ECW Express

Pre-show run-through:

Apparently Evan Bourne?s foot hurts. Also, Boogeyman is apparently now a RAW comedy act rather than an ECW wrestler. Fine by me. However, it is still quite unclear who will be Matt Hardy?s next challenger. My vote goes to Elijah Burke. Like usual. It would appear I don?t quite have the WWE?s ear, though, or Venis, Burke, and HBK would be holding the three world titles. Meanwhile, Miz and Morrison jobbed to some old guys. I wish they could have done it differently, but I still knew it was coming. Why do I spend all my pre-show recap talking about RAW instead of last week?s ECW?

(opening video)

Matt Hardy is out to address the lack of a #1 contender. Either that, or?beat up a jobber.

Matt Hardy vs. Bam Neely

Hardy hits a headlock takedown, but Neely reverses to a side headlock. Matt hits a hip toss and clothesline. Neely kicks Hardy in the back and hits three scoop slams accompanied by noises somewhere between roars and ?moos?. He breaks out the Ortonlock. Which isn?t a fair joke because Orton is way beyond his chinlock-abusing days. But hot damn, that was a funny joke when it made sense. Matt is all plucky and tries to hit the yodeling elbow smash, but Bam is not impressed and catches him for a sidewalk slam. Hardy turns a vertical suplex into a reverse DDT. Leg to Bam?s neck in the ropes, swinging neckbreaker, and the yodeling elbow smash connect. Side Effect! Tornado DDT! Hardy goes up top but Bam nails a superplex! He tries to set Hardy on the buckle (for a second?), but Matt counters awkwardly into a Twist of Fate for the win.

Winner: Matt Hardy by Twist of Fate @ 5:14

Not a bad match. It started slow, and they picked it up in the end. Bam Neely had a good showing, he seems to be getting better. Matt did what he does, which never really has impressed me that much but it?s by no means awful either. I?m gonna call this one a good match, pending that this isn?t the best match of the show, in which case it?s a letdown.

Match Rating: 5.6/10

Hornswoggle?s music hits, boring and annoying the camera so much that it retreats to?

(ads)

We come back to find out that Finlay has arrived to the ring and wants a shot at Matt Hardy?s title. Matt knew this day would come, and?Big Drippy is out to nip this wonderful respectfest in the bud. Once again, they do the smart thing and give Drippy the mic instead of Atlas. Props. Drippy says that it isn?t going down like this. Mark deserves the shot more than Finlay. Finlay says Henry has had his chance, and he only got four votes at Cyber Sunday. Matt says he was one of them. Henry says he doesn?t need words from Matt, just his title back. Finlay, in the meanwhile, has never beaten him without a shillelagh shot or leprechaun shenanigans. Doesn?t that go for everyone Finlay has faced since his face turn? Finlay threatens Henry for bringing his son into it. It?s fight time now, but Teddy Long is out to set things right. One of these times they should send Mack out in his place and see if anyone gets it. Anyways, our main event tonight is Drippy versus Finlay for the #1 contendership.

He?s the Boogeyman, and he?s coming to participate in inane time-wasting segments on a show other than the one he?s supposed to be on! Hmm?too wordy?

(ads)

Ricky Ortiz vs. Jon Davis

They trade punches and clubs. Dropkick and suplex for Ortiz. Decent looking back suplex. Diving shoulder block. Big O.

Winner: Ricky Ortiz by Big O @ 1:19

God, this guy is like taking boring and adding 40 pounds of hair. I?m starting to think Ortiz would have trouble on Hulk Hogan?s CCW. Probably not, because good god that show has some terrible wrestlers. But even the thought speaks volumes of Ortiz?s crap. He?s perky, though!

Match Rating: 2.2/10

Bourne injury recap. 4 months is Grish?s prognosis. Ouch.

Jack Swagger heads to the ring, which is set up with a table loaded with hardcore tools. Swagger says that he shut up Dreamer?s bragging. In all the time Dreamer has been around, he hasn?t accomplished much. He get beat up by a drunk with a cane while crying ?thank you sir, may I have another?. Then, he actually won a match, and became ECW champion for an entire 30 minutes. He has the old belt, says Dreamer is also old, and drops it in the trash can. He then pulls out a picture of Tommy?s wife Beulah, and asks her, if she?s watching, how it feels to have a failure of a husband. To know that her kids will grow up to be failures just like their dad, unless they have a role model like Jack Swagger. Tommy has had enough, and at this point filling the ring with weapons starts to look like a bad idea. Dreamer ducks a shot with the can, and whales on Jack with the Singapore cane. I like this feud. The booking here is almost too simple for me to believe it?s WWE. Use the awesomely over veteran to give some heel heat to the new heel, and segments like this will keep this rolling perfectly.

RAW recap. I?m damn glad Jericho is champ again, giving the belt to Dave at all was foolish. I hope Cena loses to Chris as well, because RAW seriously is Jericho at this point. His heel character is just so many times deeper than any heel character in the WWE at present, barring Edge, who hangs with him.

Finlay (w/ Hornswoggle) vs. Big Drippy

Henry is all big and powerful. Rawr. Then they stand around for a few minutes. Finlay puts on his hard hat for some clubs to the neck, but Henry retakes control with a headbutt and they pace the ring in circles for another minute. They trade punches and Henry is all big and powerful again. Rawr. Punch. Finlay gets a boot up on a corner charge. But Henry is all big and powerful. Rawr.

(ads)

Henry nails some crossfaces and hangs Finlay?s arm in the ropes. Shoulder to the ring post. Arm wrench. He stands on Finlay?s chest, and then misses on something that I guess was supposed to be a Banzai drop. Finlay lays in some kicks. Henry pops right back up and throws Finlay to the outside. Clothesline to Atlas. Hotshot to Henry. Hornswoggle jumps from the top rope, caught by Henry. Fit chop blocks him for two. Henry nails a big kick and stalks the leprechaun. They take the usual spot with Finlay jumping over Hornswoggle for a clothesline and instead have Finlay get grabbed and thrown into the post by Drippy. Mark tries for a double splash to father and son. He misses. Leprechaun distraction, shillelagh shot. Boo.

Winner: Finlay by Shillelagh Shot @ 10:17

Finlay the character is just outright ruining Finlay the wrestler. Absolutely pathetic. The match was pretty bad for a Finlay match, not surprising considering it was also a Mark Henry match. The twist on the usual clothesline on the outside spot made me happy, however nothing else here was worth the time of day, and I?m confused as to how Mark Henry keeps getting ten minute matches on ECW when it?s pretty clear that general wrestling formulas dictate ?bad wrestler ? short match; good wrestler ? long match?. So yeah?why Henry is worth the 15 minutes of air time that Elijah Burke (among others) should be getting is beyond me.

Match Rating: 3.9/10

Overall Analysis:

NO Miz and Morrison. NO Bourne (given), no Burke (just saying). Swagger, who has to be considered one of the show?s better wrestlers at this point, in a segment rather than a match. Hardy is in a squash match. It pretty much seems like they are trying to come up with the worst star ratings they can muster without bringing out Snitsky too. I mean?come on. Match One with Bam Neely, Match Two featuring Ricky Ortiz, and Match Three ten minutes of Drippy? Have we got any other stiffs we?d like to give airtime to on this show? I mean?is Butterbean available? Is someone looking into this?

Overall Show Grade: D+

From The Oilers To The Titans ? The Journey Of The Tennessee Titans

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Originally a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the Tennessee Titans was previously known as the Huston Oilers, based in Houston, Texas. They began playing in 1960 and won two AFL championships, before the AFL merged with the National Football League (NFL) and became collectively known as the NFL. They are currently a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) South Division in the NFL. In 1997, the Oilers relocated to the state of Tennessee, playing in Memphis for the first season and then moved to Nashville. For their first two seasons in Tennessee, they were known as the Tennessee Oilers and then in 1999, changed their name to the Titans.

AFL success

In their first season playing in the AFL, they won the first ever AFL championship, and won it again a year later. Wally Lemm, their head coach during that time led a strong offense. The Oilers at that time had such a potent offense that half of the starting lineup in the 1961 and 1962 seasons played in the AFL All-Star Games. After the championship, Wally Lemm left the team but came back five years later for the 1967 and 1969 postseason. The team was recharged with such winning players as quarterback Pete Beathard, offensive guard Bob Talamini, running back Hoyle Granger, and safeties Jim Norton and Ken Houston?one of the strongest defenses the league had ever seen.

Joining the NFL

In 1970, the American Football League (AFL) merged with the National Football League (NFL). In its first four seasons playing in the NFL, the Oilers lost under four different coaches. It was only in 1975 that it got its first winning record under head coach Bum Philips. The Houston posted a 10-4 record. In 1978, Earl Campbell, one of the best runners in NFL history got drafted to the team. From 1978 to 1981, Campbell earned four consecutive rushing titles, as well as two consecutive Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in ?78 and ?79. The Oilers appeared in the AFC Championship game in 1978 and 1979 but were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers?who eventually won the Super Bowl Championship. The team had a six-year slum from 1981 to 1986, and it was also at that time that injuries were slowing Earl Campbell down. Warren Moon, who came from the Canadian Football League playing for the Edmonton Eskimos, was drafted into the team in 1987 and it was then that the Oilers had its turnaround. His favorite receivers included Haywood Jeffries, Drew Hill, and Tim Smith?each posting multiple thousand-yard seasons. In 1990, Moon recorded two consecutive 4,000-yard seasons of passes and was named the AFC player of the year. During that season, center Mike Munchak and guard Bruce Matthews led a strong offensive line and tackle Ray Childress anchored a tough defense.

Becoming the Titans

Before the 1995 season that Moon left the team, Houston posted their worst-ever record in 11 years. In 1997, the Oilers moved to Memphis, Tennessee and later to Nashville and were then named the Titans. In 1999, the Titans got to Super Bowl XXXIV but lost to the St. Louis Rams.

Cincinnati Bengals ? Decades of Ups and Downs

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

The Cincinnati Bengals is based in Cincinnati, Ohio and a former member of the now defunct professional football league, American Football League (AFL). The AFL merged with the National Football League (NFL) in 1966. The Bengals first season was in 1968, playing as an AFL franchise and expansion team; they only became part of the NFL in 1970. The team is now a part of the American Football Conference (AFC) North Division in the National Football League (NFL). Their uniform colors are black, white, and orange.

Their first seasons in the NFL

During their membership in the AFL, rusher Paul Robinson led the team and got the honor of rookie of the year. In their first NFL season in 1970, the Bengals won the AFC Central Division but during the playoff, they lost in the first round. Paul Brown, the Bengals esteemed coach from the 1950s guided the team to postseason games in 1973 and 1975. During that time, Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson emerged as one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. In both the 1973 and 1975, the Bengals got as far as the playoffs but lost again in the first round.

1980s - A good decade for the Bengals

The next few seasons saw a number of changes, particularly the several replacements of head coach. The result was mixed over the next NFL seasons. In 1981, the Bengals won the division crown once again under the guidance of head coach and hall of famer Forrest Gregg, formerly an offensive tackle. It was a fairly successful season for the Bengals with a couple of their players earning awards. Ken Anderson won his fourth passing title. Wide receiver and rookie Cris Collinsworth and running back Pete Johnson both gained more than a thousand yards. During the playoffs, their luck also turned around, defeating the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills and playing in the Super Bowl. They finally lost to the San Francisco 49ers, the eventual Super Bowl Champions with a record of 26-21. Throughout the mid-80s, the Bengals was a team to contend with and played competitively. In 1985, Boomer Esiason replaced Ken Anderson as quarterback. Like Anderson, Esiason also became one of the best quarterbacks in NFL. In 1987, Cincinnati had a win-loss record of 4-11. The next season, 1988, they finished with a 12-4 record. Esiason won his first National Football Conference passing title and won player of the year together with quarterback Randall Cunningham of the Philadelphia Eagles. Among the American Football Conference?s top-rated offense were Cincinnati running back James Brooks, tackle Anthony Munoz, and receiver Eddie Brown. The Bengals once again advanced to their second Super Bowl in a decade, playing against the San Francisco 49ers. But, history, repeating itself, the Bengals lost to the 49ers who scored a touchdown at the last minute.

1990s ? A struggle for the Bengals

In 1990, the Bengals once again won in the Divisions, gaining their fifth division title. Boomer Esiason got a 3,000-yard season for six consecutive times. The 1990s was a struggle for the Bengals compared to the 1980s. Between 1992 and 1994, the Bengals won only eleven games.

The 2009 San Diego Padres (One Man’s Opinion)

Friday, November 21st, 2008

It?s no secret that 2008 has been a dismal season for the Padres. With only four games remaining at this writing, there?s still a chance they?ll end the season with a hundred losses. Only the Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals have worse records.

So, it?s time to take a look at what the Pads need to do in 2009. Although they haven?t publicly announced their plans for next season, we got a little bit of a clue this week following the surprising and abrupt resignation of hitting coach Wally Joyner?who claims it was due to philosophical differences with the front office. Yesterday, while discussing Joyner?s departure and the Padres in general, President and CEO Sandy Alderson indicated that there could be other managerial and coaching staff changes forthcoming. What I gleaned from his comments is that the club has chosen to go in a different direction.

Notwithstanding my opinions regarding the Padre ownership and management, my comments here will be limited to the player personnel.

Like all Padre fans, I have my opinions as to who should stay and who should go. While it?s being reported that the Padres intend to substantially reduce their payroll in 2009, the club has neither confirmed nor denied it. If it turns out to be true, that means they?re going with a youth movement and will not spend money on big-name free agents or trade for high-priced talent. If that happens, the 2009 Padres will resemble a Triple-A team?which, when I think about it, is kinda what they looked like this season. Anyway, my opinions are based on the premise that they will not significantly reduce the payroll and will endeavor to put a competitive team on the field next season.

I?ll start off with the offense.

All one has to do is look at the stats (as of 9/24/08) to see why the Padres have the third worst record in the majors. They?re last in runs scored (623) and on base percentage (.318), second to last in slugging (.391) and batting average (.251 ? actually, they?re tied with Washington and Arizona for that dubious distinction ? only Cincinnati is worse with .247), and they rank eleventh of sixteen NL teams in home runs.

The only proven major leaguers on the roster are Adrian Gonzalez (.281, 35 HRs, 117 RBI) and Brian Giles (.306, 11 HRs, 60 RBI). While it?s safe to assume that Gonzalez will return next year, it?s beginning to look doubtful that Giles? option year will be picked up. However, if the Padres want to be competitive, they need his leadership. If they let him go, it?ll cost them $3 million. For $6 million more, they can retain his services. The club will certainly save money if they choose to go with Jody Gerut (.296, 14 HRs, 43 RBI), Scott Hairston (.248, 17 HRs, 31 BI), and rookies Chase Headley (.274, 9 HRs, 37 RBI) and William Venable (.277, 2 HRs, 8 RBI) as their ?09 outfielders. However, how they?ll perform over a full season is anybody?s guess.

Furthermore, while the Padres would like to retain Gerut, he’s eligible for salary arbitration, which is a procedure in which the club has historically been loath to participate. If they can?t sign him on their terms, he may not be offered arbitration, and, therefore, could become a free agent.

Another factor to consider for the outfield is defense. While the Padres rank third (tied with St. Louis) in the NL, left fielder Chase Headley, a natural third baseman who?s been playing out of position since joining the club, has been somewhat shaky in the field. There is speculation that the Padres would like to move him to third base?which would mean that Kevin Kouzmanoff would be used as trade bait.

Second-year player Kouzmanoff (.265, 22 HRs, 82 RBI) has done a terrific job at third base and has shown improvement at the plate. And although he strikes out too much, Headley actually has a higher strikeout percentage. Third base is going to be a tough decision for the Padres. While it?s hard to trade away a player who might soon hit 30 homers and drive in 100 runs or more, the popular Kouz could possibly bring the club a ?number three? starting pitcher or a power-hitting outfielder via a trade. Personally, while I?d like to see Kouz stay, I really don?t want to see Headley back in left field next year. But I don?t want him traded away, either.

On to the infield. I?ve already talked about third base, so we?ll start with the shortstop position. Khalil Greene IS the Padres? shortstop. Okay, he had a tough year at the plate. And, as everyone knows, his poor performance was exacerbated by an idiotic, self-inflicted injury. Still, I believe that Greene will bounce back next year and be the player the club and the fans want him to be. Enough said.

Although Luis Rodriguez has done a remarkable job filling in for Greene at short and could possibly be their second baseman next year, I think it behooves the club to fill that position with an established big leaguer who can provide stellar defense, speed, and a little power. The only free agent who fits that bill is Orlando Hudson, who made over $6 million this season with Arizona. Hudson, who?ll be 31 next year, would give the Padres veteran leadership along with everything else they want in a second baseman. However, his price may be too high for the budget-conscious Padres.

Edgar Gonzalez did a commendable job filling in at second base this season and I don?t think there?s any doubt that the personable older brother of Adrian can hit. However, the Padres see him as a reserve player. I believe the same applies to Luis Rodriguez.

Speaking of Adrian Gonzalez, the Padres’ only All-Star will be back at first base next year. However, what I?d like to see is a bonafide power bat hitting behind him. If the Padres can find a guy like that, Adrian?s numbers might be even better next season. There are several power-hitting outfielders available in the 2009 free agent pool. Heading that list are Manny Ramirez, Pat Burrell, Jason Bay, Adam Dunn, and Vladimir Guerrero. Of course, Ramirez will more than likely end up in New York or stay in L.A. I?d be very happy with either Burrell, Bay, or Guerrero roaming the outfield at Petco Park next year and hitting behind Adrian.

If the Pads can sign a power hitting outfielder to play either right or left, I?d start Gerut (if he?s retained) in center. If he doesn?t return, Venable and Hairston might platoon in that position. Headley would be moved to third and Kouz would be traded for pitching.

Now, what about catcher? Well, call me crazy, but I like Nick Hundley and would like to see the Pads stick with him. He?ll need a solid back-up, of course, and my choice there is Brad Ausmus.

Let?s move on to the pitching staff. After leading the majors in team ERA in 2007, the 2008 version of the Padres? staff was a complete disaster. And I?m being nice about it. I don?t care to get into league ranking and all that stuff (again being nice). Basically, here?s the deal: the Padres have two solid starters?Jake Peavy and Chris Young. Cha Seung Baek has been good on the road but horrible overall at home. He may win a starting job in spring training. However, I?d like to see him in the bullpen as a middle reliever and spot starter. While posting a 2-1 record with a 2.86 ERA, Josh Geer has shown promise in his four starts. He?ll be given a chance to compete for a starting job in the spring. Outside of that? Nada, my friends. Wade LeBlanc may develop into a big league pitcher down the road. But, for now, he belongs in Triple-A. And, nothing personal, but I would not re-sign Shawn Estes. Trust me on this one?the Padres will be looking for solid starting pitching over the winter.

That brings me to the bullpen. Yikes! On paper, the Pads had a good bullpen going into the 2008 campaign. It included several pitchers who had performed well in the past. Because of time and space, I won?t list the failures. Instead, I?ll simply mention those whom I think should be members of the 2009 Padres bullpen.

First and foremost, the services of all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman should be retained. To not re-sign Trevor would create a PR nightmare for the Padres. Along with Tony Gwynn and Randy Jones, he?s one of the most respected and revered players to ever wear a Padre uniform. And he still has some bullets left in that arm. I?d give him two more years, although it wouldn?t be at the same salary level as 2008.

Other than Hoffman, the only other relievers I?d bring back are set-up man Heath Bell, Justin Hampson (a good leftie) and Mike Adams?who turned out to be a ?diamond in the rough? this year. If Clay Hensley isn?t traded or released in the off-season, I?d also give him a chance to win a job in spring training. Hensley, who was very effective as a reliever in 2006, came off shoulder surgery this year and may not have been performing at a hundred percent. Even if Hensley wins a job and Cha Seung Baek is moved to the pen, the Padres will still need a veteran right-hander and a veteran left-hander to round out their relief corp.

If the Padres want to compete next season, they?ll also need a much improved bench. They have a good start with Edgar Gonzalez and Luis Rodriguez. Of all the veteran free agents available this winter, I?m sure the Padres can find a couple of guys who can still be productive off the bench.

To sum it up, the 2009 Padres will need to hit better, pitch better, run the bases better, steal more bases, score more runs, strikeout less, and become more adept at basic baseball fundamentals, such as bunting and advancing runners, if they want to be competitive.

One thing for sure: no matter what the Padres decide to do, it figures to be an interesting winter.

Avoid Ill-Fitted Golf Clubs

Friday, November 21st, 2008

We?ve all found ourselves criticising our shots and swings for our performance at one stage in the past ? no matter how much time and effort you invest in perfecting your golf shots ? you?ll never achieve your ultimate targets if you?re using unsuitable or substandard golf clubs.

If you intend to purchase or receive a set of used golf clubs be sure to inspect them closely. Club-heads and shafts must show no sign of neglect from its previous owner ? natural signs of wear can be expected on the grip. If purchasing a used set of from an online advertisement ? don?t be afraid to request emailed confirmation of the exact contents of the golf set.

More importantly research the Internet using shopping comparison websites like pricegrabber.co.uk, nextag.co.uk and shop.com for the latest prices on new golf club sets. The cost of purchasing a brand new golf set can be more cost-effective than acquiring golf clubs individually from various sources ? where the addition of postage is charged per club. If you?re a beginner the purchase of a new set of clubs will provide a degree of consistency and confidence ? for example, the Chicago SGS golf set for beginners can be purchased in many variations including 1? shorter, ladies and men?s editions ? each set of clubs offering the optimal match in terms of shaft length and flex. Texan Classics produce a hybrid golf set in 1? taller (6? 1?+ over) and 1? shorter (for players under 5? 6?) editions. Both brands can offer a complete set of 14 golf clubs with stand bag for under ?90.

Custom fitted golf clubs can offer the most practical solution in finding the best golf clubs to match an individual?s unique characteristics. Online custom fitting is the latest revolution to hit the golf industry with manufacturers like Forgan of St. Andrews ? the world?s oldest golf brand, offering one of the most easy-to-use custom fit services. A player simply enters the following details: gender, dexterity, height, floor to wrist height, glove size and swing speed; the website then calculates which golf clubs are best suited to their game from shaft flex to lie adjustments.

The type of golf club shaft can also help in predicting how well a player will progress in their game. Graphite and steel shafted golf clubs each possess their own characteristics ? steel shafts have always been considered to be more durable than graphite for example; like all golf equipment the key is to try out both kinds to determine which type best fits your swing. Graphite being a lighter material to steel can produce an extra 6-12 yards of distance. Steel shafts are typically recommended for players of a mid to low handicap. Graphite shafts are therefore better suited to ladies, junior and senior players ? with varying degrees of flex to match the individual characteristics of each swing type. Given the increasing popularity and demand for graphite shafts ? prices are typically higher compared to steel shafts.

Online retailers offer the lowest prices on graphite and steel shafted golf clubs. The Sports HQ for example supplies graphite shafted drivers from ?6.99 and complete all-graphite golf sets with bag from ?89.99. Junior golf sets with graphite shafts can also be purchased from ?29.99.

Duncan White with Forgan Golf provides you best information of custom golf clubs including custom made and built golf clubs. He is expert in provide details about custom club fitting.

Purchasing Quality Golf Equipment at Affordable Prices

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Perhaps one of the most important factors in influencing the decision to start any new sport is cost. Golf unlike some sports requires a plethora of golf equipment from the beginning including golf clubs, accessories, balls, shoes and suitable clothing ? especially if you?re considering to take-up the sport in winter; put simply, golf equipment is a huge part of the game and entry costs such as lessons, membership and driving range fees can be equally so.

Before the dawn of online retailing the pro shop, franchised high street store and direct mail organisations held the monopoly on ?expensive? golf equipment. Ever increasing overheads were inherent to such retail outlets ? with margins especially tight on top branded golf equipment ? retailers were faced with two options; absorbing (to a point) all overheads or increasing their prices.

As a beginner you?ll most likely be looking to invest in a beginner?s set of clubs. If like so many of us you?ve tried out the local driving range with a selection of used golf clubs ?you?ll probably have noticed a pro-shop within the club house. If you take a look at the price of an average golf club set, you?ll notice that the price will most likely be over your budget; the same is also true for other items of golf equipment including golf shoes and balls.

A Saturday morning trip to your local shopping centre can also provide an opportunity to find new golf equipment ? large high street chains like JJB and Sports Soccer both stock a limited range of equipment for the beginner. Prices can appear on the surface to offer exceptional value; golf sets from ?99.99 for example. Unfortunately, like all ?high-street? retailers - the price will reflect the enormous overheads of retailing offline. Choice is another factor often missing in the high street; these stores are limited to the number of lines they can carry for one sport ? ?one-size-fits-all? is common-place in the high street.

The Internet on the other hand offers a wealth of discount golf equipment. The Sports HQ for example offers the complete package for golfers ? stocking hundreds of lines from well-known manufacturers and offering exceptional discounts on its exclusive range of golf brands including Confidence, Prosimmon, Texan Classics and Chicago Golf. These brands are produced exclusively for The Sports HQ ? shipped direct from the manufacturer and supplied through one of the many websites operated by the group including: TheSportsHQ.com, Golfballs.co.uk, GolfGear.co.uk and JuniorGolf.co.uk

From a beginner?s perspective an online store like The Sports HQ can provide the complete golfing outfit within budget and delivered the same week. Like many of us feeling the squeeze in the current economic climate ? purchasing a complete golfing outfit for the beginner ? on a budget, is a tall order. It can often prove more expensive purchasing individual items of golf equipment in the long term instead of purchasing the entire outfit from the start.

Online retailers can pass on incredible savings to the customer through low overheads, stocking more lines and supplying golf equipment direct from the manufacturer. A beginner?s set of clubs for example can be purchased for less than fifty pounds ? including a stand bag; again, the benefits of retailing online become apparent ? the golf set in question can be purchased in men?s, ladies and left-handed editions. If you?re searching for a perfect gift at Christmas for a junior golfer ? golf sets can be purchased at JuniorGolf.co.uk from ?29.99 ? the new junior golf equipment website from Sports PLC.

Any newcomer to the game on his or her first experience of a golf course will find themselves having to invest in a pair of waterproof golf shoes and a plentiful supply of golf balls. A quick browse of The Sports HQ website reveals enormous savings on both items of golf equipment ? two pairs of leather (waterproof) golf shoes for under thirty pounds; 2-dozen lake balls (perfect for any beginner prone to losing balls) from ?4.99.

Suddenly the reality of purchasing an entire golf outfit on a budget is a reality ? most online shops will offer one shipping charge when multiple items are purchased at the same time ? items can also be delivered the next working day at a small additional cost.

Find the Right Golf Bag ? Play Better Golf!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

In the past decade manufacturers have made considerable improvements in how golf bags are produced including the materials used and subsequent durability of those bags has increased substantially. The colours, styles and variations now available from golf retailers is truly mind-blowing ? with many golf retailers now offering free personalisation on specific brands ? players now have the opportunity to coordinate their entire golfing outfit from clothing to equipment.

Golf bags come in different guises from the Sunday / Pencil bag which is designed to hold a reduced number of golf clubs and golf equipment ? ideal for a quick nine holes after work, these bags are constructed from lightweight materials and are not suitable for carrying a complete set of clubs.

The stand bag has perhaps witnessed the greatest degree of evolution in the past decade with many golfers now choosing to carry a full set of clubs ? thanks to new lightweight nylon based materials and dual padded straps to distribute the weight evenly across the back and shoulders. Most stand bags now feature lightweight, retractable legs which are spring loaded and extend automatically when the bag is placed down. This process allows straightforward access to your golf clubs at a comfortable angle which is natural for the body.

The trolley or cart bag is typically larger than a carry or stand bag and is designed to carry a complete set of golf clubs ? most trolley bags include 14 ?graphite-friendly? dividers to provide excellent protection in transit. Typically the largest of all golf bags ? excluding the Tour bag ? the trolley bag is designed for use with a push, pull or electric golf trolley. The trolley bag will also feature an array of pockets which can be accessed without removing the bag from the trolley. Like the stand bag ? some trolley bags can be customised with a logo, text or both in your choice of colours ? this provides the ultimate gift for any golf enthusiast and would make the perfect addition to a corporate golf day.

There are a number of features to look out for when purchasing a golf bag ? these include amongst others:

-Divided Club Compartments to help arrange and organise your set of golf clubs ? modern trolley bags feature graphite friendly dividers to protect delicate graphite shafts.

- External putter holder for convenient access.

- External umbrella holder for quick access in the event of a sudden downpour.

- Velcro glove holder

- Detachable zippered rain hood

- Insulated cooler pocket to maintain the temperature of hot/cold drinks.

- Multiple accessory pockets (front facing) with curved pocket openings for easier access.

- Hidden valuables pocket for the safekeeping of keys, wallet and money.

Travel covers are designed to protect your golf clubs and bag from the perils of long distance travel ? many airlines recommend golfers protect their equipment with such covers. Brands such as Forgan of St. Andrews produce deluxe travel covers featuring inline wheels to provide a convenient means of transporting the golf bag from the airport to your car. This model also features extra thick padding to provide additional security during baggage handling.

The perfect addition to any golf trip is the holdall or duffle bag. These bags offer substantial storage space for golf accessories including golf shoes, clothing, gloves and golf balls. The Palm Springs Boston Bag for example provides a separate compartment with enough room to protect wet clothes or shoes from spoiling the remaining contents. This particular bag can also be customised to match your entire outfit and provides a convenient way for spotting your luggage on conveyer belt at your destination.

Increase Golf Swing Speed

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Many players spend the whole of the time that they play golf worrying about how to increase golf swing speed. This is an important part of the game, as you may be aware, because if you swing harder then you should be able to hit the ball harder. If you can do this without losing any accuracy, then you can get to the green more quickly and you should be able to finish the hole with a better score.

Obviously, if you can get a better score then you will not only feel better in yourself but you will have a chance of improving your handicap and beating the people that you are playing with. This can lead to you being able to enjoy the game a lot more, as well as you being able to achieve more while you are playing. It is so important to have a positive attitude when you are playing and to enjoy it as you will be more relaxed and should be able to get more out of the game.

If you think that you are capable of playing well, then you will have a positive attitude and should play well ? it is all about getting into a positive frame of mind. It is supposed to fun after all! If you want to have a go at trying to increase golf swing speed then there are quite a few options for you. It is firstly important to make sure that your technique is correct and that if you hit the ball harder, that your technique will not be compromised and a less accurate shot being made.

The only way to really find this out is to practice. Try hitting the ball a little harder, if you can and see what result it has. You may of course find that it is not that easy to hit the ball harder. It may be necessary for you to increase your strength in order to achieve this.

There are workouts that you can do in order to achieve this, you can buy them on DVD or video and you can also find exercise guides on the Internet and in books, if you do not want to pay for them. These make sure that you strengthen and tone the muscles that you use when you play golf, mainly the ones that you use when you swing.

This means that you should be able to have the strength to hit harder and it will also improve your flexibility, meaning that you can more easily position yourself correctly to hit the ball properly. It is a good idea to have a go at one of these workouts, to see whether you get on with it and whether you think it will help to improve your game.

Just think at the potential results. If you do a workout a few times a week and increase golf swing speed you will be able to play a better game, enjoy it more and become fitter ? three benefits in one!

Online Custom Fit Golf Clubs ? The Next Generation

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Every golfer is unique in terms of their physical attributes and swing type. The historically high costs of purchasing a set of custom fitted golf clubs has until now prohibited the normal player from improving their game.

The traditional process of custom fitting has involved tailoring a golf club to match an individual swing type ? ensuring the club is square at impact to produce a long, straight shot. The entire process of custom fitting from sizing to building can take up to three weeks before a player can reap the benefits of custom fitting. The cost of a standard custom fitting process can also be prohibitive ? not only are you paying for the time of a professional golfer and club builder, the actual components of the club ? unless purchased direct from the manufacturer in sizeable quantities can also inflate the final cost.

Until now the entire custom fitting process was manually intensive. The Internet has allowed manufacturers like Forgan of St. Andrews to provide an online custom fit service for its golf clubs. As the world?s oldest manufacturer of golf equipment ? it seems fitting that its latest innovation is set to revolutionise the custom fit market in the 21st century.

Forgan has leveraged its expertise and knowledge of golf club manufacturing in developing a streamlined custom fit process ? available from its websites ? forgan.co.uk and forgangolf.com

To custom fit your golf clubs you need to know the following attributes: Gender, Right or Left-Handed, Height, Wrist to Floor measurement, Swing Speed and Glove Size. A complex formula is used to calculate the appropriate shaft length, including the player?s height and wrist-to-floor measurements. A tall player with long arms can for example require shorter golf clubs than an average height person with short arms. Swing speed and gender are combined to determine the custom golf club?s shaft flex, whilst glove size determines the type of grip most suitable for the player. Professional golf club engineers then build the golf clubs to the precise specifications required for true custom fit golf clubs.

There are different methods of custom fitting available on the market ? usually dictated by the golf manufacturer in question, ultimately all manufacturers including Forgan of St. Andrews are trying to improve your game.

Custom fitting won?t cure all your miss-shots ? coaching is certainly recommended for ironing out problems with your swing and address. If you do however make a good swing, a custom fit golf club will arrive correctly at impact and will produce a straight shot on target ? that alone will save you shots during a round.

The for mentioned manufacturer of golf clubs in this article ? Forgan of St. Andrews was established in 1860; today, golf clubs from that time are still some of the most collectable in existence. Today?s custom fit components from Forgan are produced from the highest quality materials ? featuring the latest technology and innovation ? synonymous with the brand. Since its launch the manufacturer has secured the services of international legend Ian Woosnam and European Tour champion David J Russell (?DJ?). The endorsement of such players can only reinforce the manufacturer?s intention to produce the finest golf clubs, custom fitted to the players exacting standards.
